You don’t need to give up the convenience of liquid shampoo to use bar soap.
Directly rubbing the bar on your hair is not recommended as it increases friction, fragility and breakage of hair. Instead, make liquid “shampoo.”
- Buy a clear shampoo travel bottle. (Clear, so that you can see inside.)
- Take a knife or grater and shave a teaspoon amount of soap.
- Pour shavings into bottle. Fill halfway with warm water. Shake. Fill remaining space with warm water. Let sit for half an hour to an hour.
- Ready to use.
For sanitary purposes, keep in fridge and use up within a week of making it. Because we haven’t added any preservatives, bacteria will grow in it and will mess with your scalp biome.
Remember to do a final rinse with diluted apple cider vinegar or some other hair friendly acid to balance the pH.
Side note: I have long curly hair that reaches my bra band on my back. My hair has been less frizzy and way softer since I stopped using industrial shampoos and conditioners. I stopped getting split ends too.
