My 5yr old loves Julia Donaldson - The Gruffalo, The Gruffalos Child, Room on a Broom (Whoosh and they were gone!) and The Friendliest Giant in Town. Just to name a few
Agree with the above and also shorter chapter books like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, etc.
Dr. Seuss books are great too! Short, fun stories with lots of rhyming words. Kids can easily remember the words and you'll just notice that they are reading with you. It worked with my three-year-old daughter.
Both my kids love Dr. Seuss! Especially Green Eggs and Ham and One Fish, Two Fish and The Sneetches.
Also Richard Scarry (Busytown, Lowly Worm)
P.D. Eastman (Go Dog, Go!, Are You My Mother)
Stan Berenstain (The Berenstain Bears)
Marilyn Sadler (P.J. Funnybunny)
There are also a whole lot of TV character books available. Their favourites are:
Jon Stone - The Monster at the End of this Book (Sesame Street)
Sarah Albee - Elmo Says... (Sesame Street)
Maggie Testa - How Is Daniel Feeling? (Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood)
Angela C. Santomero - Goodnight, Daniel Tiger (Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood)
The last three on the list are definitely easy enough for a 5/yo who is willing to read along to handle with ease.
We recently started reading chapter books with our 5 year old daughter. We pick books that we loved as kids. We just finished The Farthest Away Mountain by Lynn Reid Banks are she loved it.
my 4 year old loves the cranky bear series by nick bland
We are a fan of We're going on a bear hunt and the Hungry Caterpillar.
Harrz potter ; cinderella the litte mermaid; beauty and the beast
