    Default FODMAP Diet and Irritable Bowel Syndrome

    Hi

    I have recently been diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and my doctor suggested that studies have shown that the low FODMAP diet has been shown to help with the symptoms of IBS. It is quiet a drastic change in diet for me as I am Indian and you can't eat onion and garlic on the diet .

    Here is a quick explanation of the FODMAP diet (if you like me had never heard of it before)

    FODMAPS are certain food components that are fermentable, poorly absorbed shot chained carbohydrates. It stands for Fermentable, Oligosaccharides, Diaccharides, Monosaccharides and Polyols. So basically

    Avoid: Garlic, Onions, Legumes, Fruits containing high Fructose (apples, avocado, mango, pears etc), processed meat, Wheat and most Dairy

    Okay to eat:, Most vegetables, Fruits (Banana, Mandarin, Paw Paw, Blueberry etc), Most meat and seafood, non dairy milk, oats, corn rice

    So what I would like to know is;

    Has anyone with IBS tried the diet. Did you give up everything together or one by one?

    Has anyone had to change their diet based on a diagnosis and how did they make sure they followed through?

    Would appreciate your thoughts

    I did it last fall for 6 weeks and then one by one added the foods back to find the ibs culprit. it was not difficult and once the bowel settled down it was like a reward! Good luck!

    Thank you. Good to hear that you found the culprit in 6 weeks. I have heard that some people have to maintain the diet. Anyone in that situation?

    I agree! Banana treats IBS very well! Bananas are really nutritious that help with IBS symptoms relief. To treat diarrhea, you can also take in bananas since its soluble fibre present in bananas help soak up the liquid in the intestines. Additionally, the potassium found in this nutritious food is potential for curing bloating and gas.The easiest way is to consume from one to two ripe bananas regularly to keep your digestive system stronger and healthier.
    If you have diarrhea, mix a mashed banana with one teaspoon of tamarind pulp and salt. Eat the mixture two times per day until the diarrhea is completely treated
    I would like to recommend more treatrments for IBS that I think effective:
    - Fennel Seeds: it can reduce the intestinal spasms as well as bloating, the two common symptoms of IBS and prevent the formation of mucus in your intestine that is believed to partly cause IBS. SO you should drink fennel seed tea every day.
    - Chamomile tea is considered a great treatment for diarrhea as well.

    If you want to know more anout other treaments for IBS, you can read here (copy this in tab) authorityremedies.com/home-remedies-for-irritable-bowel-syndrome/
    Hope my post helps.
