    Default Losing Weight

    I am trying to lose weight and would love to know you did it. I mean how many time did you exercise and what kind of healthy food did you eat?

    I lost 25 pounds so far. I'm still losing...

    EDIT: LOST 40 LBS!!!!

    All I did was weigh and measure my foods. I have a small scale that I use to weigh my veggies, meat, etc. And I watch labels of foods.

    I eat 1,200 calories a day. Which sounds like a small amount, but I'm rarely hungry. Sometimes I have to force myself to eat more.

    I joined My Fitness Pal and use that to log my meals daily.

    I eat everything I used to eat (including the occasional sweets), only I make sure I don't go over my calories.
    Though my foods before were pretty healthy to begin with. I don't eat fast foods or junk foods.
    But for someone that is used to eating fast food or out, then you'd probably use up nearly my full day in one meal!

    You can go here and sign up and start figuring out what your necessary calorie intake is for your activity level and height.
    myfitnesspal.com
    They also have discussion forums which a lot of help and suggestions.

    I also want to point out that I don't exercise and still lost 25 lbs. I lost it all by watching what I eat. It's really that simple!
    I have muscle/nerve issues that makes exercise painful at times, but I hope to be able to do simple stuff in the future.

    Weight loss really comes down to calories. Too much and you gain weight. You need to have a deficit and that leads to weight loss.
    While exercise is obviously good for the body, it's not a requirement to losing weight. As I said, I haven't exercised and I've lost 25 lbs and I'm still loosing!

    With calories, you have to know if you're going over or eating more than your maintenance amount, because if you are eating more, then you'll gain. This means you have to read labels and start weighing food. Without that, you're pretty much going blind and will be eating more than you need to lose or maintain your weight. My sister still doesn't understand this yet and she keeps trying to loose weight and is failing because she's not eating her calories at a deficit. Hopefully she'll figure it out soon!

    Hope this helps!

    So I will try to not be that person that makes everything so complicated but here is my story. I cut calories and worked out and ate healthier and lost nothing. I went to a doctor and they figured outnumbered was eating the wrong things for my metabolism. I needed to eat 50% protein 30% fat and 20% carbs. When I reconfigured my meals to reflect this (not as exact but close to this) I started losing 2-3 lbs every week.
    A friend of mine was tested and his balance was 33% for each. And when he ate that way he started losing weight too.
    I am sure for most people calories consumed being less than calories used works just fine but my situation was a little different.

    Try to join My Fitness Pal so you can track your weight, exercise, food and water intake.
    Don't try to stress yourself much with losing weight sometimes, thinking about it too much may lead to the opposite effect.
    Don't skip meals. Try to have small meals every 2-3 hours.
    Drink plenty of water.
    Start with something simple as getting 10,000 steps a day. That can do wonders.
    If you have video games like the old xbox, try the dancing games like Just Dance, Dance Central, Zumba to make things fun.
    Try to check out accounts in instagram - some people are brave enough to document their weight loss journey. You may find inspiration from them too.

    I lost 30 kg (that's about 66 pounds) of babyweight with Weight Watchers. Twice... The first time in about 8 months, the second time in less then 6 months. So I'm a big fan of their program. It's a lot of counting in the beginning, but after a while, it infiltrates in your daily diet and you don't even realize that you're watching what you're eating. The second time, I combined it with pilates once a week, which made it easier.

    I know that this is an old thread, but I thought that I would share my story.
    I was 260 lbs in July 2014. I started watching my calories, and lost some weight. Then about 5 weeks into my diet I found MyFitnessPal. I joined, downloaded the app, I bought a Misfit Shine activity tracker, and most importantly a good food scale.

    I have bad knees, so I am limited to what I can do for exercise. I had a glider in my bedroom. It worked great as a clothes hanger, and to hang damp towels on after getting out of the shower. So I put it to work for what is was made for. I could only do 5 minutes before I got winded. But I got on it a few times a day. Eventually I was able to stay on it for a half hour or more.

    MyFitnessPal is a calorie counting program. It doesn't tell you what to eat. Using your age, height, and weight, and how much you would like to lose, it tells you how many calories you need to eat in order to lose weight.
    You log everything you eat and drink. MyFitnessPal keeps track of these so you can see if you are staying within you calorie goal. If you have an activity tracker, you can sync it to MyFitnessPal, and it will show your calories burned.

    Misfit Shine tracks your activity throughout the day. I wear it 24/7. It tracks my exercise on the glider, and my deep water jogging in my pool in warmer weather.

    With these three tools, I have lost 100 lbs. I have another 25 still left to lose. When I reach my goal, I will tell MyFitnessPal that I am ready to maintain, and it will adjust my caloric need to help me do that.

    The food scale is the most important part of this journey IMO. You really have no idea how much you're eating until you start weighing your foods. It's a pain in the butt at first, but after a couple of weeks it's just routine. I measure most foods in grams. I only use measuring cups for liquids. There can be a huge difference in a half cup dry measure, and the supposed equal weight in grams.

    I hope that this will encourage those who think they can't lose weight. Believe me, I thought that I would never see 200 again, let alone be close to 135 again. To be wearing a size 12 instead of a 24W.

    Please feel free to ask me anything about my journey.

    Substitute quantity for quality. Smaller potions with better quality foods. (I really recommend researching on how the French eat.) Another way is to eat smaller portions or healthy snacks throughout the day instead of eating larger meals. Your stomach has an easier time breaking foods down that way. I'm not big on exercise, but little things like taking the longer way on a walk to somewhere or walking up the stairs instead of taking the elevator helps. I personally like going on walks. If you have a pet, walk it. Another fun way to exorcise would be playing music in the shower and dancing along to it.

    Thumbs up Juice Bitter Melon/Gourd (Karela) - weight loss & many health benefits

    I have recently began to consume twice per day - bitter melon/gourd also called karela.
    In the morning and just before night sleep, 1-1.5 hours before any meals >
    I drink 1 tall cup of bitter melon, apple, carrot & lime juice.
    Some people choose to juice just the bitter melon.
    I add carrots, apple & lime to reduce the bitter taste. Taste surprisingly good.

    I have noticed that the swelling around my neck and belly fat is reduced.

    Keeps me healthy, energised and alert

    BITTER-MELON, CARROT, APPLE & LIME JUICE

    Ingredients
    * 1/2 a large bitter melon (gourd)/ Karela or 1 small one
    * 1 apple
    * 2 carrots
    * 1/2 lime or lemon

    Preparation
    1. Take a bitter gourd. Cut it into two halves, long-ways. Now, scoop out all the seeds in the vegetable.
    Keep all the white internals (this is full of beneficial photochemicals).
    Discard the seeds. ^^^I save the seeds to germinate & then plant in my pot plant/garden.
    2. Chop the apples & carrots.
    3. Peel the lime/lemon. Discard the peel.

    Juice Together
    1. Add all the ingredients together into the juicer (I have a slow juicer).
    2. Pour the juice into a tall cup 1/4 filled with ice.

    What to do with the dehydrated matter (output)?
    You can discard it.
    Put it into your composter.
    Keep it and make a vegetable stew with it.

    There are many juicing recipes and cooking recipes using bitter melon.
    ^^^Check out youtube videos.

    I lost 60 pounds by going the low carb, I cut out bread, sugar, rice, chips, potato, for a few weeks until my body was producing Keto's.. they use your own body fat for energy and is a perfectly natural body reaction (never drank soda before , so no problem.) But I did NOT diet. I find putting that label dooms me to failure. I eat what I want, plenty of meat, vegetables, fruits, and after a few weeks of getting used to the good food going in. I started adding some carbs, but I always try to keep my cards under 40g a day.

    one reason people 'fail' at diets is that they try too hard to stay on a strict regimen, and they get to feel deprived. So eat, and eat a lot of good food, just stay away from processed carbs. 1 Hamburger bun can be 40g of carb all by itself.
    another reason is that there is a period of transition while your body gets used to the new intake. You might feel sluggish and bummed out, get headaches and be cranky. this can lead to binge and then you feel better temporarily. then the cycle repeats and your bdy does not like it. remember your brain is on this new diet too, so if you feel the need for chocolate, listen.. just choose a good chocolate, which is naturally low in carb's and by the way so is whipped cream.
    one of my fave treats while "dieting" is a small dish of whipped cream (the real kind) and chocolate drizzled on top.. less than 100 calories and low in carbs.. but Delish!

    Btw I did not exercise at all, just went by my normal routine.

    I lost over 50 pounds by walking and watching what I eat. I joined My fitness pal to watch my calorie intake and have a fitbit to count my steps. Or you could use your phone and download a step counter. I do go to the gym but I'm mostly on the treadmill. I had some motivation to use the weight because I was borderline diabetic. I'm still losing weight and don't get discouraged because it took me a year to lose 50 pounds. Hope this helps.
