It depends on how you use it. First, I copy the files I want to convert into a separate Temp folder. Then I direct Calibre to that Temp folder for Calibre to convert them. After they are converted, I copy the converted files from the Calibre Library folder to my device. I then delete everything from the Calibre Library folder. Finally, and only when I'm satisfied that the conversion was successful, I delete the files from my Temp folder and the original files. Basically, I use Calibre for conversions only, not to manage any library. Yes, it's a bit more work, but my files are never in danger of accidental deletion or corruption.

    Default thank you for warning!!!!

i had a problem but thankfully i also kept a copy of my fav books in another file under different name as i would have lost everything,i am using windows 8 had installed latest calibre update version 1.18
everything was working fine, then a few days later it all stopped working while adding another book ,at first i thought it was just that book so i tried to open one of my books i got a error message i had same message on every book.
i had to delete it and re-install then i couldn't find program (in the drop down box to open with) it was a nightmare i was so frustrated but i found it eventually.

if i hadn't read the warning thread i don't think i would have backed up books under another name.

Calibre is now up to Version: 2.5.0. Isn't it time for this thread to be closed? Just asking.
You should always know where your Calibre Library is ie Documents Calibre Library is probably the default folder.
It's not "gone" because you can always restore it via http://manual.calibre-ebook.com/faq....n-app-is-blank
