    Default FODMAP Diet and Irritable Bowel Syndrome

    Hi

    I have recently been diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and my doctor suggested that studies have shown that the low FODMAP diet has been shown to help with the symptoms of IBS. It is quiet a drastic change in diet for me as I am Indian and you can't eat onion and garlic on the diet .

    Here is a quick explanation of the FODMAP diet (if you like me had never heard of it before)

    FODMAPS are certain food components that are fermentable, poorly absorbed shot chained carbohydrates.It stands for Fermentable, Oligosaccharides, Diaccharides, Monosaccharides and Polyols. So basically

    Avoid: Garlic, Onions, Legumes, Fruits containing high Fructose (apples, avocado, mango, pears etc), processed meat, Wheat and most Dairy

    Okay to eat:, Most vegetables, Fruits (Banana, Mandarin, Paw Paw, Blueberry etc), Most meat and seafood, non dairy milk, oats, corn rice

    So what I would like to know is;

    Has anyone with IBS tried the diet. Did you give up everything together or one by one?

    Has anyone had to change their diet based on a diagnosis and how did they make sure they followed through?

    Would appreciate your thoughts
