Only the cover.![]()
What Mejin said. LOL
With Harlequin vs Mills & Boon for example, it's only the cover that differs. All the content is the same.
They don't change tyre to tire or other words just for the USA ones.
Sometimes with other books it's a different cover and title.
Many mysteries/thrillers and other genres may have a different title in the UK editions or vice versa. Sometimes it has to do with selling rights and other things. Sometimes the publishers think one title appeals to a county more so than another.
But the content is the same.
If the book was written by someone in the UK, with UK grammar, etc then it will keep that in the US editions. And same for the other way around.
I have never heard of a book being totally or completely edited for one market/county or the other. If there are any changes, it would be small, minor ones.
Or things that are grammatical.
'Single quotes' for dialogue in the UK being changed to "double quotes" in the US ones, for example.
One thing....I can't remember what book it is, but I swear I saw a Goodreads review that said a younger kids book changed a word....it might have been "tramp"?
In the UK, my understanding is it means a homeless person. I think it means the same thing in the US...but it can also refer to a promiscuous woman (a slut basically). That's what "tramp" means to me when I hear/read it and what most younger people are more familiar with.
So in that case, I think the publishers changed that word in the US edition.
