Grief

Shortly after the death of my youngest daughter I was diagnosed with severe grief reaction and one doctor tried to put me on anti anxiety meds, they didn't work, I turned into a vegetable and wasn't processing so I stopped taking them. It has been 10 years and honestly the only things that have helped me are talking about my daughter and sharing her story. Reading, writing, crying and sewing also go along way to help. It also helps me when I can hear others stories not only does it help me not feel so alone in my grief but I hope it helps the other person sharing their grief not feel alone.

I my daughter's Angelversay was just a few days ago and I miss her everyday. She and her friend were killed by an unlicensed 17 year old impaired driver on the day she came home on leave from the Navy. We picked up from the airport at 9:15 am and by 5 pm she was dead. They said she didn't feel a thing but I will never ever believe that, the nightmare wont let.

I lost my husband on June 20th this year. We were together for almost 30 years. Am I okay? Today, maybe, I cried like a baby today and probably will tomorrow. The fact is everyone deals with grief in their own way. Let me be clear. Grief will never go away, the hurt will lessen a little over time, acceptance and anger can be felt together. I still mourn my grandparents who died in 1989. Mourn your little girl. Cry and rage all you want. There is no right or wrong here. I have been in therapy for a long time and I am lucky because it really helps. What works for me may not work for you. No matter what you feel, it isn't wrong. A book suggested to me was A Man's Search For Meaning by Viktor E. Frankl. While it can be a dry read, skimming and reading sections make a lot of sense for me. That man went through horrors and came out the otherside. You will too. Today? Not likely, but in time, I believe you will.
